My first thought was plug fouling, but that should give problems hot or cold (esp cold). I'd pull the plug(s) anyway and try to give them a read. Carb cleaner is good too, just make sure you can do some wide open (like highway) riding to really get the gas flowing through the jets. I don't know how your petcock operates, but if it is vaccum driven (a la Savage), check to make sure there are no leaks or kinks in that hose. You can also get gas starvation if your gas cap doesn't vent properly. Last but definitely not least, check your compresssion. If you are getting air into the head (like my buddy's blown gaskets) it pops and stutters as if running out of gas. Good luck.
